Roger Pontare could be in Kyiv now, representing Sweden with his song “Himmel och hav”. But our SongHunt rules only allow songs that didn’t win their national finals, but got a lot of love in our Eurovision chat. This love took the song to the heats, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, and now it’s one of the twelve candidates in the grand SongHunt final. What is SongHunt about, you may wonder? Well, for those who don’t know already: It’s about finding the best national final song of the Eurovision season!

From Melodifestivalen to SongHunt

Back on 11 February, Sweden held the second semi-final of Melodifestivalen. Seven entries competed for a ticket to the MF final in Stockholm, or at least to the Swedish second chance round, “Andra Chansen”. Robin Bengtsson won the Swedish final, and thus became the country’s representative at the Eurovision Song Contest. Meanwhile, a lot of other songs from the Swedish preselection marathon received high ranks in our chatroom, and thus entered the heats stage of SongHunt 2017.

Roger Pontare has a long ESC history, having represented his nation at the international competition in 1994 and 2000, as well as making further attempts to fly the Swedish flag. However, “Himmel och hav” didn’t reach the Swedish final on this occasion, so it had to earn the love of our users via the Last Chance Poll instead. It succeeded in this task and hence followed many of the other Swedish contenders into SongHunt. We’ll get to the other Melodifestivalen songs in SongHunt, of course – but for today, we’re focussing on:
