Line-up check 2017: Second half of semi-final 2
As the first rehearsals in Kyiv come ever closer, it’s time for the escgo! line-up check to complete its analysis of the songs of the second semi-final. As always, the entries have been split between our editors – Felix, Shi and Martin – to give their personal preferences and predictions in text and emoji form. The non-assigned authors also get a 30-word “right of reply” afterwards.
Line-up check 2017: First half of semi-final 2
The annual escgo! line-up check for 2017 has reached the second semi-final, to be held in Kyiv on Thursday 11 May. And while Russia’s withdrawal was an unnecessarily long, drawn-out and uncomfortable process for all concerned, at least it means the remaining 18 songs can now be neatly split between two blog posts. Which is very thoughtful of them. Anyway, it’s time to join our editors Felix, Martin and Shi as they turn their attention (and their emoji rayguns) to the next contenders for the Eurovision crown…

The SongHunt continues – let’s find the best song from the new national final season! This is semi-final 1, featuring twelve qualifiers from the SongHunt quarter-finals. The 6 songs with the most votes will proceed to the grand final. This poll is...
Line-up check 2017: Second half of semi-final 1
The escgo! line-up check for 2017 continues as we turn our attention to the remaining songs of the first semi-final. Like last time, each song has been assigned to one of our editors, who has 100 words to give their opinion – accompanied by some emojis illustrating their prediction and preference. Then the other two editors each get a 30-word “right of reply”.
Line-up check 2017: First half of semi-final 1
In the world of the Eurovision Song Contest, April is the month for analysis and anticipation. And now that the lack of clarity surrounding Russia’s participation in ESC 2017 has finally been settled (we assume), it’s high time for us here at escgo! to make our contribution with our annual line-up check series!

Line-up check 2014: United Kingdom
Just over a year ago, I wrote a piece about the BBC's attitude towards ESC and the logic behind Bonnie Tyler's participation. It began with the line "It’s frustrating being a British fan of the Eurovision Song Contest" - and I could have started this line-up check...
Line-up check 2014: Ukraine

Line-up check 2014: Switzerland

Line-up check 2014: Sweden
The most closely observed of all participating countries, Sweden, hasn't actually been overly successful in the last nine years - apart from a third place in Düsseldorf (Popular) and, of course, their victory with the subsequent top hit Euphoria. Loreen has remained a...
