11:48 (Felix) While some other #esc chatters in Stockholm go to sleep just now as I write this, I just returned from an awesome breakfast in the hotel.
The days in Stockholm usually pass by like a rocket, and this time it’s not any different. My hands and throat are still sore from the MF-final, my nerves recovered a bit quicker after the winner was clear. We were all witnesses of a fantastic show (to avoid the words great, awesome and amazing), no matter which song was one’s favourite or what one didn’t like at all – everyone attended a very good show with a nerve breaking finish!
I headed to the OGAE afterparty with some fellow chatters and friends, where we got to dance to this year’s entries of Austria, Russia, Netherlands and France already – I most likely forgot some others, but those were surely the ones with the best reception. Apart of Euphoria of course, which is probably the most celebrated song in the history of any national final, which leads me to the headlines of Swedish media this morning. SVT reports that Loreen got the most votes in the history of Melodifestivalen (670 551), Aftonbladet’s poll reveals that (currently) the vast majority of the people think that the right song won. Still, 2nd placed Danny left the green room right after Loreen’s victory to avoid the winner’s reprise, stayed away from the after party and keeps on criticizing the people’s choice and the winner’s song. That happens when you try too hard to win.

Just coming from Kris’ annual preview party where some of our chatters and friends looked at this year’s Eurovision songs and voted… quick results before I am heading off to dinner on Patricia (a ship):
1. Sweden (78 points)
2. Cyprus (68)
3. Finland (63)
3. Italy (63)
5. France (61)
5. Hungary (61)
7. Serbia (59)
8. Slovenia (58)
9. Ukraine (56)
10. Iceland (52)
10. Norway (52)

Meanwhile, over here at Gamla Stan Towers, it’s been a quiet day. We’ve been slowly recovering from last night’s alcoholic excesses, gasping at the voting figures mentioned by Felix above, persuading our Belgian to stay until tomorrow, eating pasta, and watching some guy called Alexander Rybak win a Norwegian final. (Bet he does nothing at ESC – it’s a total fanw!$k.)
Good old Patricia will be our venue later on, too, though only for clubbing and not for dinner. The boat may be starting to show her age, but it’s still the perfect way to round off the MF weekend with friends and fun. First, though, more wine and old national finals and giggling. Hm, Latvia 2000 maybe…?

OK, so we tried watching Moldova. Gave up halfway through as the stream was dodgy, but we tuned back in for the winner. Inbetween times: the ESC 2008 semi-final and now the 1978 previews. We’ll make it to the boat eventually…

Ph Ph Ph Ph Ph Ph Ph Ph Phhhhh Phhhhhhh
(just trying to express the whistle part of France 2012 cos it’s totally stuck in my head, even without it being played in Patricia)
well, that was a weird party.
The dinner was outstanding as every year, but then there was first no ESC-music, and then, when they declared a room as ESC-dancefloor, probably more than a hundred ESC-fans trying to find a place to stand (for dancing there was no place left) in a room that was about 4 x 6 meters. Smallest Eurovision dancefloor ever. They should actually know better, that the boat will be captured by us this night, but we first had to start a riot (well) to finally get a better dancefloor. Special thanks to our Dutch mate for this achievement! So we got upstairs in the end for a much deserved decent Eurovision dancefloor, even without any lights in the beginning. At least the very dimmed ceiling lamps were turned on later.
And as it so happens, this was also the night when saying goodbye to all friends was an unpleasant but unavoidable thing to do. But we’ll meet in the chat, tobakoo, at MF 2013 and definitely on some other occasions.
That’s it for me from Stockholm! After 4 amazing days of blogging, partying, exciting, I have not a lot words left, same goes for my voice. But my first time in Globen (out of 14 visits to Sweden) was definitely a great experience. And the right song won.
Vilket under. Vilket mirakel. Herrrrrregud!
4:41 Exactly what Felix just said, basically. Patricia should really know its audience better by now, and a playlist of fade-out mp3s that haven’t been updated since the mid-2000s doesn’t really cut it any more when there are other going-out options (albeit not so much on a Sunday). Then again: one of those mp3s was Arvingarna’s “Bo Diddley” from 1995, and who expected to ever hear that in a nightclub? Ojojojojojoj!
(Oh, and seriously, Patricia – insisting that you’re only allowed to buy more than one drink if you’re also accompanied by more than one person, “so that we know your friends aren’t drunk”? Rightio…)
Fab night with friends despite the organisational issues, anyway, dancing like idiots and doing occasional Ragni Malmstén moves to random dansband tracks. We’re pretty awesome.
So thanks, Stockholm. (Thockholm.) We’ll be back for more – we always are.
