Germany picked its finalists

by | Feb 14, 2012 | Uncategorized

Unser Star für Baku will be either Ornella de Santis or Roman Lob. In any case, these are the two finalists in the German preselection! After an endless search to whittle the field of 20 candidates down to two, one comes as no surprise (the boy), while the other was something of a shock (the girl). Not a big shock, given that viewers saw Ornella getting better show by show, but a nice one when you bear in mind that Yana was considered the other safe finalist in recent weeks, and that Shelly was overhyped by the jury and the producers.

In fact, Yana got more insecure as each show passed, and in the end she was totally out of tune and thus had to leave – and rightly so.

Shelly must have had some fans out there who voted for her, but also enough people to vote against her by voting for the others. As did we, successfully.

So after a long, long search with unnecessarily long and quite boring shows, we finally know the two finalists, and in the end the result is absolutely alright. Neither of them would be a disgrace for Germany, but probably neither of them will be a second Lena either.

The German final takes place on this Thursday, 20:15 on Das Erste (ARD).

The results

  1. Roman Lob
  2. Ornella de Santis
  3. Yana Gercke (eliminated)
  4. Shelly Phillips (eliminated)
