Today: Denmark decides, semi-finals and heats in six more countries

by | Feb 7, 2015 | Uncategorized

Tonight will not only see the Danish final, but also the first semi-final in Estonia, the first semi-final in Finland, the second semi-final in Iceland, the third heat in Hungary, the sixth show in Lithuania, and last, but not least: the kick-off of Melodifestivalen 2015, i.e. the first semi-final in Sweden.

Denmark will select its entry for Vienna tonight. Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will see an update of the format, which – besides a new logo – also includes the renaissance of the regional juries, which haven’t been in use since 2008. The five juries each consist of three members. In total, the juries will have 290 points to award, the same as the televoting. The points of the latter will be determined by percentage. For example, an entry that receives 20% of the votes will get 58 points (20% of 290).

Estonia launches Eesti Laul 2015 as the first of two semi-finals is held. Ten songs will compete tonight, five of which will qualify for the final on 21 February. The results will be determined by a 50/50 combination of televoting and jury.

Finland will host the first of three semi-finals of UMK (Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu). Six songs will compete, three of which will qualify for the final on 28 February. The outcome will be based on televoting alone.

Iceland sees the second semi-final of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2015, which is the last heat before next week’s final. Three of the six competing entries will qualify for the final, based on televoting alone. In addition to the three qualifiers from each semi-final, a jury will select a seventh entry for the final as a wildcard.

Hungary gets to the final show of the first stage of A Dal before the two semi-finals are held in the upcoming two weeks. In tonight’s heat, ten songs will be performed. Again, five songs will be selected by a combination of jury (80%) and app voting (20%). Afterwards, a sixth qualifier will be chosen from the remaining entries by televoting alone. The Hungarian final will be held on 28 February.

Lithuania is also having a show tonight, the 6th heat in their complicated marathon journey towards the final on 21 February.

Sweden launches Melodifestivalen 2015 tonight, with the first semi-final being held in Gothenburg. Seven acts (instead of eight as in previous years) will compete for two direct tickets to the grand final on 14 March. The entries that finish in 3rd and 4th position will be sent to the 2nd chance round, “Andra Chansen”, on 7 March. The bottom three will be eliminated.

You can find all the details of tonight’s shows (except Lithuania) in the tabs on the right-hand side. Further down, you can toggle between “Today” and “Calendar” view.

Don’t forget to join us in the #esc chat, where we’ll be watching, talking about and voting on the shows.
Tonight’s songs (except Lithuania) will also compete to qualify for our own SongHunt. The scores given to each song by our chatters will have an influence on which songs will qualify for the next heat, to be launched tomorrow night.
