So like Jedward totally like won in Ireland

by | Feb 25, 2012 | Uncategorized

Jedward will represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest for the second year in succession. The talkative duo comfortably won tonight’s Eurosong competition with the song “Waterline” and will defend the Celtic colours in the first semi-final in Baku in May 2012.

Having built up a European fanbase in the wake of their 8th place in Düsseldorf with “Lipstick”, hopes will be high that John and Edward can finish even higher this time and return the self-proclaimed “home of Eurovision” to the top 5 on the scoreboard for the first time since 1997 – or even deliver them an eighth win.

Among Jedward’s competitors were Donna McCaul, who sang for Ireland at ESC 2005, and a song written by one of the members of B*witched that could barely have been further from the girlband’s style if it had been thrash metal.

As has become traditional in recent years, Eurosong 2012 was held as part of the long-standing Late, Late Show, making this presumably the only national final ever to have featured an interview with Martin Sheen during the voting break. Although if you know better, do let us know!

The full results were as follows (jury scores + televoting scores in brackets):

1. Jedward – “Waterline”: 114 points (54 + 60)
2. Andrew Mann – “Here I Am”: 94 points (44 + 50)
3. Donna McCaul – “Mercy”: 84 points (44 + 40)
4. Una Gibney & David Shannon – “The Language Of Love”: 58 points (38 + 20)
5. Maria McCool – “Mistaken”: 50 points (20 + 30)
