The Netherlands will be represented at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest by Joan Franka and the song “You And Me”.
In something of a minor surprise – at least if you go by bookmakers and fan opinions, neither of which are necessarily terribly reliable! – Franka triumphed over Pearl Jozefzoon and Ivan Peroti in the superfinal of Nationaal Songfestival 2012, having previously won her way through the first “duel” round (full results below). Although the professional jury clearly favoured both of her rivals, she claimed more than half of the equally weighted televote to take home the victory.
Franka, billed simply as “Joan” throughout (all of the participants originally appeared in casting shows, where surnames are illegal), made quite an impression with her remarkable American Indian-themed outfit, complete with headdress. Meanwhile, her four backing singers and musicians answered the question plaguing many a Eurovision fan over the last eight years: whatever did happen to Neiokõsõ?
“You And Me” will be performed in the first half of the second semi-final in Baku.
The dual rounds went as follows:
Pearl Jozefzoon – We can overcome beat Tim Douwsma – Undercover lover
Joan Franka – You and me beat Raffaëla Paton – Chocolatte
Ivan Peroti – Take me as I am beat Kim de Boer – Children of the world
And the results of the final were as follows:
1. Joan Franka – You and me – 37.6 points (11 jury + 26.6 televoting)
2. Pearl Jozefzoon – We can overcome – 33.1 points (19 jury + 14.1 televoting)
3. Ivan Peroti – Take me as I am – 29.3 points (20 jury + 9.3 televoting)
