Eva Boto to fly the Slovenian flag in Baku

by | Feb 27, 2012 | Uncategorized

Eva Boto will represent Slovenia in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest with “Verjamem” (“I Believe”).

At the culmination of the long-running Misija Evrovizija process, Boto ensured that Jedward remain the only twins in the 2012 line-up (so far!) by beating young Nika & Eva Prusnik to the crown.

Each of the acts performed three songs, with a televoting/jury combination selecting “Verjamem” for Boto and “Konichiwa” for the Prusnik twins. Despite the latter song causing quite a stir among international Eurovision fans, it was “Verjamem” that comfortably won the final, televoting-only selection round.

As viewers were repeatedly informed throughout the Misija EMA 2012 show, Boto is following in the footsteps of Maja Keuc and will hope to emulate the latter’s success by qualifying for the grand final in Baku – where she will initially perform in the second half of the second semi-final.

If the mood and build of “Verjamem” seem familiar, it may come as no surprise to learn that the song shares a composer with Marija Šerifović’s “Molitva”. It remains unclear as to whether, unlike that Serbian winner, the Slovenian entry will be translated into English in time for May.
