Ott Lepland to defend the Estonian flag in Baku

by | Mar 4, 2012 | Uncategorized

In one of three national finals held last night, Estonia selected Ott Lepland to represent them in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Kuula” (which translates as “Listen”).

After two semi-finals, the Eesti Laul final – a pleasing mixture of diverse musical styles aimed as much at the local public as the international audience – saw a field of 10 songs whittled down to a superfinal of two by a jury and televote.

In the televoting-only final, Lepland then received 67% of the calls and SMSs, thereby comfortably beating rival Lenna – formerly a member of girl band Vanilla Ninja (Switzerland 2005) – and her song “Mina jään”.

“Kuula”, which is apparently likely to be kept in Estonian for the ESC, will be performed in the second half of the second semi-final on Thursday 24 May.
