We already knew that Pastora Soler would sing for Spain at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest – but last night we discovered the song with which she’ll take to the Baku stage.
Three entries were presented as part of a national final show that also looked at Soler’s career and family and allowed her to duet with several famous names from Spanish showbusiness. Two hours for three songs might seem excessive, but this is Spanish TV, after all – we still remember the 2007 marathon, so a pre-midnight finish was already something!
In the end, the 50-50 jury/televote was unanimous, with the experts and the public alike preferring the big ballad “Quédate conmigo” – written by the team of Thomas G:son, Antonio Sánchez Ohlsson and Erik Bernholm – over its rivals, “Ahora o nunca” and “Tu vida es tu vida”.
As one of the “big 5” financial contributors, Spain is directly qualified for the ESC final on Saturday 26 May.
