Eleftheria: Greece likes the Aphro influences

Eleftheria Eleftheriou will represent Greece at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Aphrodisiac”.

It was already clear that the Mediterranean country would send something up-tempo and slightly trashy to this year’s contest, as the four songs in the running all fit broadly into that category – but a mixture of jury and public votes gave the nod to the singer with the alliterative name that will no doubt give Europe’s commentators something of a hard time in Baku.

The Ellinikos Telikos national final was, perhaps appropriately, a somewhat low-budget affair held in the middle of a shopping centre, elevators and all. A far cry from Globen two nights ago, but then that’s part of the charm of the Eurovision Song Contest!

Greece will perform in the first half of the first semi-final to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Tuesday 22 May.
