“Marry Me”, she sang, and she won Finland’s hearts: Krista Siegfrids.
Another lesson was taught to those who think they can predict a national final, as neither of the two favourites – Diandra and Mikael Saari – won Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, the Finnish preselection for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.
The preliminary predictions weren’t too far wrong, it has to be said: Mikael Saari landed in 2nd place, while Diandra came third.
But it was Krista who convinced the combination of the jury – who couldn’t make up their minds, ranking three songs equal 1st – and the Finnish televoting public more than anyone else, and thus she can ask Europe in Malmö if it wants to marry her too. For Finland, at least, the proposal seems to have worked!
Finland will compete in the first half of the second semi-final of ESC 2013, to be held on May 16th.
