Latvia selected its entry for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night: the duo PeR will represent the Baltic nation in Malmö with the song “Here We Go”.
PeR, which apparently stands for “Please explain the Rhythm” and consists of members Ralfs Eilands and Edmunds Rasmanis, have attempted to reach ESC before – their best result so far had been with the colourful “Disco Superfly”, which came in fifth in 2012.
The odds may have been in their favour this time, as PeR had not one but two entries in the grand final. However, only “Here We Go” made it through to the superfinal, where it competed against Samanta Tina (“I Need A Hero”) and Marta Ritova (“I Am Who I Am”) for the favour of a combined jury and public vote.
In the end, it was the beatboxing rap boys who came out on top – and they now go forward to defend Latvia’s colours in the first half of the second semi-final of ESC 2013, to be held on Thursday May 16th.
