Serbia has chosen its entry for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Malmö, Sweden. The 2007 winners will be represented by the group Moje 3 and the song “Ljubav je svuda”, which won the public’s approval by a clear margin of almost 6,000 SMS votes.
On Saturday night, broadcaster RTS had held an extensive semi-final to reduce the field of 15 contestants to just five finalists. Proving that such a small line-up is no barrier to creating a two-hour show, however, tonight’s grand final featured several medleys by performers from Serbia’s Got Talent – the aim of which was presumably to illustrate the cultural diversity of Europe by reminding us how every single country has its own 20-member youth dance troupe, bearded popera singer, swordfighting duo and lady of a certain age singing about Jesus.
Still, it could be worse – for a while it looked as if the greenroom hosts were going to force all of the contestants to read out phrases in Swedish, but after one of Moje 3’s attempt at “Jag sjunger fint”, they seemed to give up on the plan (though not before trying a “shotbullar” of their own).
Let it not be said that it wasn’t an enjoyable show, though – and one that more or less ended on time despite starting late! Viewers even had the pleasure of being given the full results of the SMS vote, which were as follows:
5th: SKY’s – Magija
4th: Marija Mihajlović – Halo
3rd: Saška Janković – Duga u tvojim očima
2nd: Dušan Svilar – Spas
1st: Moje 3 – Ljubav je svuda
Our #esc chat vote had the same top two, although the margin was somewhat closer – Moje 3 received an average score of 6.85 points out of 10, followed by Dušan with 6.82.
The vocal trio Moje 3 consists of Mirna Radulović, Nevena Božović & Sara Jovanović. Nevena in particular may be remembered by some ESC fans for her 3rd place at the 2007 Junior Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Piši mi”. We’ll see if she and her bandmates enjoy similar success at the adult version of the competition, where Serbia will perform in the second half of the second semi-final on Tuesday May 14th.
