Germany reveals details of 2015 national final

by | Sep 8, 2014 | Uncategorized

The German final to select an entrant for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest, Unser Song für Österreich, will be held in Hanover on Thursday 5 March.

Seven established artists will fight for the ticket to Vienna alongside a “wildcard”, which will be chosen in a televised concert to be held at the Große Freiheit 36 venue in Hamburg on Thursday 19 February. Newcomers can now upload their videos for the wildcard selection process. This is a route that can prove very rewarding; after all, it was the springboard for Elaiza’s surprise path to Eurovision 2014 and an ultimate 18th place in Copenhagen with Is It Right. However, their path didn’t just end on the lower regions of the scoreboard, as their entry still gets frequent airplay on German radio stations. Their career is also ongoing in Switzerland, Austria and Poland.

Barbara Schöneberger can look forward to another busy year: she will host the club concert and the national final, as well as broadcaster ARD’s live events surrounding the Eurovision Song Contest itself on Saturday 23 May.

Although it has not yet been revealed whether the artists will perform one or two songs at the national final, the announcement of the same basic information as in 2014 suggests that the format of the show may also be the same.
