There are two shows for Eurovision fans to follow online tonight.
One entry will be added to the line-up for ESC 2015 as Ireland selects its representative for Vienna. Using the now-traditional Eurosong format, held in the studio of the long-standing Late Late Show and hosted by Ryan Tubridy, a total of five songs will compete for the honour of representing the country that still has the most wins in ESC history. Things have been tougher for Ireland recently, however, and while last year’s Eurosong was memorable because of the stand-up argument between Linda Martin and Billy Guinness – and we are pleased to note that Linda Martin is back on the expert jury tonight, so maybe there’ll be some more fireworks! – the show failed in its objective of selecting an ESC finalist, as Can-Linn and Kasey Smith’s “Heartbeat” ultimately failed to qualify from its semi-final in Copenhagen. Tonight’s winner will be determined by a 50/50 mixture of televoting and regional juries, and will be hoping for a more favourable fate in Vienna.
Meanwhile, the selection format in Austria continues with another pre-recorded show. Tonight, the six remaining artists will each perform a cover version and something that is being described as a “surprise”. The only voting will be a public vote in the hall, but this is largely meaningless as all six acts will go forward to next week’s third show anyway.
You can find all the details of tonight’s shows in the tabs on the right-hand side. Further down, you can toggle between “Today” and “Calendar” view.
Don’t forget to join us in the #esc chat, where we’ll be watching, talking about and voting on the shows.
Tonight’s Irish songs will also compete to qualify for our own SongHunt. The scores given to each song by our chatters will have an influence on which songs will qualify for the next heat, to be launched on Sunday night.
