Australia will compete (yes! compete!) at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna!
According to the EBU and the responsible Australian broadcaster SBS, this will be a one-off event to tie in with the 60th anniversary celebrations.
Australia already has a secure place in the grand final – this way, no regular country will be disadvantaged when it comes to qualification. In the event of an Australian victory, the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 will take place in Europe, organized in co-production by Australian broadcaster SBS and a regular EBU broadcaster.
This means that the number of participants at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna has risen to 40.
We just checked the date and it’s not April 1st.
