In one of the more surprising pieces of news to emerge in the current ESC on-season, Czech Television has confirmed that it will return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015!
Having participated between 2007 and 2009 with extremely limited success (achieving a grand total of 10 points across its three entries), there had previously been no indication that the Central European nation was considering a comeback – but today it was announced that there will be an internal selection for the artist and song to represent the Czechs in their neighbouring country of Austria in May 2015, with five entries to be specially commissioned from well-known songwriters.
We can’t help but wonder if the Czech Republic’s page in the ESC history book would be less full of scoreboard disasters if this number by the grande dame of their music scene, Helena Vondráčková, hadn’t been withdrawn from the 2007 national final at a late stage:
