FelixK’s review on the Big 5 rehearsals

by | May 8, 2011 | 2011 ESC General, Uncategorized

Last morning in Cologne! I already attended the Euroclub yesterday, and I don’t know how I will spend this day having slept only for 3 hours and moving to a new hotel etc., but you’ll read more in my real Düsseldorf Blog from this afternoon on! And what do you do on a sunny summer sunday morning like this? Check the remaining rehearsals!

Here’s my 2 eurocents again.

France
The grand anthem. Epic backdrop. Big favourite. The winner? His vocal abilities don’t leave any doubts after the first rehearsal, but indeed – his facial expressions don’t necessarily contribute. But really, if someone from the future told me France won in 2011, I wouldn’t be surprised AT ALL.

Italy
You get exactly that what you expect from it. Vocally it’s as it’s supposed to be, the staging is quite decent, backdrop could be better. It’s a difficult entry, not the same song or style, but I’m comparing it a bit to Germany 2007. The juries will surely love this, but I can’t imagine it finding a wider audience among the televoters. Would be a positive surprise though if this would come far.

UK
Boyband alarm! I dunno. I have seen better. The suits don’t really fit the whole thing I think, and the backdrop is distracting, a bit Mamo-style. Let’s see how this develops in the next rehearsals.. I heard people saying it’s the winner, but I have a lot of doubts. The song is fine, as are the guys, but to me it’s a too dull staging.

Germany
So she does it again? No, she doesn’t cos this is completely different in all kind of possible ways. The song is outstanding, as is the whole staging. Her vocals aren’t spot on but thats what you expect from her, especially in rehearsals. This is definitely an eye catcher, and it will surprise a lot of visitors all across Europe. If they like it or not, we’ll find out in less than a week, and I wouldn’t be surprised about anything between places 1 and last.

Spain
Aw. Good old Spain. Probably the most cheerful song in the whole lineup, probably the Big 5 member with the least chances to get into the Top 10. Vocally it’s not bad really. But it’s all looking a bit random, the backdrop is awkward. Whoever gets drawn next to it will be in a very good position.

So that’s all for now! My last blog entry from outside of the ESC-City, now the real journey begins!
