SongHunt 2022, our search to find the best non-winning song of the national final season, has concluded – and the winner is “Ay mamá” by Rigoberta Bandini from Spain!
In an exciting interactive event in our chatroom tonight, we watched all 15 finalists before casting the votes that would combine with the public poll to determine the overall winner.
Our public poll attracted well over 400 votes from 30 different countries – a huge thank you to everyone who took part! Those numbers allowed us to divide the public vote into five regional juries in order to ramp up the drama even more. This is how the public voted:
Then it was time for our chatters to have their say! Like in ESC, we converted their points into the “televoting” 50% of the final result and presented them in order as follows:
As you can see, “Sun numero” by Younghearted made a brave assault on Rigoberta’s lead with the help of our chatters, but in the end “Ay mamá” defended its position and took a very narrow victory ahead of the Finnish group. The podium was completed by Xeinn from Spain with “Eco”.
Reflecting the impact that the relaunched Benidorm Fest had on the 2022 national final season, this is the first time we’ve ever had a Spanish winner in the history of SongHunt (although Aitana & Ana Guerra came very close in 2018). That’s another reason to salute Rigoberta on her victory and enjoy her song one more time. Ma-ma-ma-ma-many congratulations!
