Düsseldorf – time is running out

by | May 13, 2011 | 2011 Düsseldorf Blog, escgo at Eurovision, Uncategorized

Both the semi finals are over, the lineup for the final is complete. The year 2011 approaches its highlight with big steps, as in about 31 hours we know the winner!

Düsseldorf has remained weird. The size of the city isn’t a problem really, the bigger problem is that the people here just don’t care. Whereas in Berlin or Cologne, the locals would have cheered along with the fan crowds and took part in the celebration somehow, the common Düsseldorfers just give us flag wavers a look like we’re aliens.

But that doesn’t keep us away from singing in the subway between the arena and downtown, that doesn’t keep the Eurovision spirit away. It just feels damn shit that the Eurovision spirit isn’t really welcomed by the most locals here. Düsseldorf itself is quite a grey mess, the gorgeous riverside promenade being a big exception.

So it’s the final tomorrow, isn’t it? Rightnow they play “Da da dam” in Eurocafé, and I think this has a big big chance tomorrow. But surely, there are at least 10 other entries with chances for victory, which means that one of them might just as well finish 10th or lower. If I had to choose, I’d also put Austria, Hungary, Ireland and Germany into a closer circle of potential winners. But I can be terribly wrong of course.

Rightnow I’m preparing for the EuroBoat trip that takes place on the Rhine river tonight, hopefully to be succeeded by a night in Euroclub afterwards. Hope to come up with a new video and another blog post tomorrow!
