“Love Kills” to Malmö for Belgium

by | Dec 16, 2012 | Uncategorized

Belgium has chosen its song for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Malmö, Sweden.

Reflecting the drive towards austerity that seems to be dominating this year’s on-season, Walloon broadcaster RTBF opted to select its entry in a simple (if not exactly short) radio broadcast. The artist already selected to represent the bilingual nation in May – 17-year-old Roberto Bellarosa, who first found fame on The Voice Belgium – duly performed the three entries participating in the competition.

In the end, it was “Love Kills” that took the triumph in a televote/jury split vote, beating off the competition of “Reste toi” and “Be Heroes”.

The songwriting team behind “Love Kills” can boast a certain Eurovision pedigree: Andreas Anastasiou was responsible for “San angelos s’agapisa”, the 2011 Cypriot entry, while Iain James Farquharson enjoyed far greater success in the same contest as one of the co-writers of the Azeri winning song “Running Scared”, which was responsible for taking ESC to Baku in 2012.

In Malmö, Belgium will be looking to reach the grand final of ESC for the first time since 2010, having fallen at the semi-final stage in the last two years with the a cappella group Witloof Bay and young Flemish singer Iris respectively.
